Envoy reminds UP alumni in UK to give back to PHL

Philippine officials in the United Kingdom urged the alumni of the University of the Philippines (UP) there to continue giving back to their motherland. Ambassador-designate to UK Enrique Manalo said, "Intellectual and artistic success should not be an end in itself, but is more meaningful in the context of service to the people." Manalo urged UP alumni to "make use of your brilliance and talents, not only to advance your careers, but also to give back to your country, your people and your community here in the UK." The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said there are several hundred UP alumni in Britain, many of them working as researchers and academics in top universities there. UP alumni association During the gathering with embassy officials, the UP Alumni Association UK elected its new set of officers, led by its president Dr. Julius Hafalla. The association also awarded Certificates of Recognition to the new batch of scholars under the Chevening, Nippon Fellowship and Westminster University programs. The group held an afternoon program that included talks on the scholar's life in the UK and the composition of the Filipino community. - VVP, GMA News
