A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court over the weekend sentenced a Filipino couple to 10 years in jail  for forcing a fellow Filipino into prostitution. Gulf News said the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the man, 35, and the woman, 23, for human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of the 27-year-old Filipina. The man was also charged with raping the Filipina, Gulf News added. "He did not use force. He paid me money and I agreed to have sex with him and did so although I told him I didn't want to," Gulf News quoted the victim as saying. The victim also claimed that the woman demanded Dh19,000 (roughly P223,979) if she wanted to quit prostitution and return to the Philippines. Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi said the defendants will be deported to the Philippines after serving their sentences. However, the couple denied the prostitution charges, and the man also denied the rape accusations. The report said the 23-year-old woman allegedly threatened to commit suicide if she could not get help from the Philippine Embassy. - VVP, GMA News
