Seven Filipino crewmembers were rescued after a Cambodian merchant ship they were serving on encountered a mishap off southeastern Taiwan Saturday morning. Taiwan's Central News Agency reported Saturday night the mishap involving the "Ryu-Jin" occurred 80 nautical miles off Taitung County. Citing data from the National Rescue Command Center, the CNA report added the ship's captain had fallen overboard. A rescue helicopter sent from Chiayi located the damaged ship at noon and rescued the Filipinos. The CNA report said the ship had a gaping hole. The seven rescued Filipinos were taken to Taitung Air Force Base where they are now temporarily sheltered, the report said. — ELR, GMA News
