After technical upgrades to its equipment, the Department of Foreign Affairs has cut down the time needed to process passports by two weeks, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore announced Thursday. “Applications for passport renewal received from Monday, 30 January 2012 onwards will be processed and ready for release in four (4) weeks, instead of the current six (6) weeks,” the embassy said in a news release posted on its website. The embassy reminded Filipinos based in Singapore that a passport with at least six months’ validity is a standard requirement for international travel, and encouraged them to renew their passports early to avoid inconvenience.
