A Filipina was sentenced to death by Malaysia's High Court for trafficking in cocaine found dissolved in a wet towel, a report of the New Straits Times said.
The report said Jeanette Congcan Opena, 32, a cybercafe owner, was found guilty of bringing in the cocaine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Dec 4, 2008.
The report quoted Judge Datuk Siti Mariah Ahmad as saying, "I found her to have knowledge of the drugs and that she was not an innocent carrier."
The judge also noted that Opena was "an educated person and when she was given a smelly towel to be brought into the country, she should have been suspicious." Nine witnesses testified in the trial. GMA News Online has tried to confirm this report with the Department of Foreign Affairs but has yet to receive a reply. - VVP, GMA News
