A Filipino was killed in a car crash in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, a UAE-based news site reported late on Monday.

Two people were also injured in the car crash at the Al Wajn area of Abu Dhabi, according to a report on Gulf News. The report did not name the fatality.

The police said the Filipino passenger died from injuries while the driver and another passenger suffered severe to moderate injuries.

"According to a passenger in the same vehicle, the driver was engaged in a conversation with another passenger when the accident occurred, and was probably not entirely focused on the road," said Col. Hamad Al Baloushi, director of the outer region with Abu Dhabi Police.

An Indian passenger also suffered moderate injuries, police said.

An initial investigation showed a Pakistani national was driving a company vehicle heading north in the fast lane when he lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the right and crossed multiple highway lanes.

The car rolled multiple times and finally came to rest on the roadside away from the highway lanes. — RSJ, GMA News
