Pinoy kid in UN art contest: 'Peace is like zero war'
Angelo Reeves Dominic, a nine-year-old child residing in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is the only Filipino contestant in the United Nations' (UN) Art for Peace competition. “For me there is no need for bombs or guns or anything to harm people. My painting is called X because my math teacher tells me x is equal to nothing or zero. To have peace is like zero war,” Dominic said on the UN Art for Peace 2012 website. Art for Peace is an annual contest for youths ages five to 17 years old worldwide. It is a joint program of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs and the Harmony for Peace Foundation. The UN urges the public to show support for the artist by "liking or tweeting" their pages. Children around the globe are still welcome to submit their entries in the contest until April 30 this year. For more information about the contest mechanics, visit http://www.unartforpeace.org. Proud mom Angelo’s proud mom used the social media to ask support of his son’s art work. “Dear FB friends, Today is my son Angelo Reeves Dominic's 9th birthday and yesterday he was confirmed to be the only Filipino participant so far in this art competition…," his mom wrote. "As of February 21, there are 75 entries all over the world chosen by a panel of judges from the UN. Angelo's art piece is one of them. Of the 75, there are only 19 entries for those aged 5-9 years old. May I request you to support his entry by clicking the link below and click "LIKE" on his entry,” his mother said. ”I don't have too many friends on FB but I count on your support by sharing this link with your friends for them to LIKE. This is a fitting birthday gift you can help me give my son THUMBS UP for an art painting he did last year at Jam Jar here in Dubai. THANK YOU,” she noted. On its Facebook page, the Illustrado Magazine of Dubai said: “Let's help out 8 yr old ANGELO REEVES DOMINIC the ONLY FILIPINO contestant in this UNITED NATION's Disarmament Organization's "ART FOR PEACE" Contest - an intl art competition for young people. Vote for his art now!” - VVP, GMA News
