PHL customs bureau on lookout for drug mules from Middle East
The Bureau of Customs is now on alert for the possible arrival of drug mules from the Middle East after the arrest of an Ugandan national who was found carrying four kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) last weekend. Customs officials expect to intensify their intelligence operations on similar attempts to bring drugs in and out of the country, radio dzBB reported early on Monday. Last weekend, authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport arrested Josephine Balixu Denbe after finding four kilos of shabu worth P20 million in her luggage. The Ugandan national insisted she did not know about the drugs and that she was only asked by a man to transport the package. She said a man gave her a ticket to the Philippines along with $300, and lent her his luggage. The investigation showed that the Nigerian arrived on board an Emirates Airlines flight from Ethiopia and was arrested when the drugs were discovered in her luggage. - VVP, GMA News
