UAE Islamic ruling: For treatment, female nurses may see women's sensitive parts
The top Islamic ruling body in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said female nurses working in intensive care units (ICU) may see the sensitive parts of women's bodies for the sake of treatment.
The Fatwa (Islamic edict) center of UAE's Ministry of Justice issued the ruling in response to a query by an Emirati woman, who recently joined the gynecology section of a UAE hospital.
According to a report of the news site Emirates 24/7 over the weekend, the nurse wanted to know if she was allowed to see the genitals of female patients.
The center, quoted by the Arabic language daily "Al Khaleej," said on its Fatwa: “Seeing these parts of a female patient’s body is allowed at ICU as long as it is for the sake of treatment.”
“What is done at ICUs is governed by rules that permits things which are otherwise prohibited…if the treatment of a patient requires exposure of sensitive parts of the body, then this is permissible,” the center added. According to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), the UAE is the fourth top destination of Filipinos, with 636,154 Filipinos residing in that country as of 2010. - VVP, GMA News
