Public warned vs. fake DFA emails
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) warned the public on Friday about fake emails purportedly coming from the DFA. In a news release posted on the Official Gazette website, DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Singapore reported that a Filipino there received an email from "consulate@dfa.gov.ph." The DFA said the supposed email claimed the Filipino is the subject of a request for a warrant of arrest, "for his alleged involvement in some criminal activity." "The DFA wishes to inform the public that the abovementioned email account is not an official DFA account," the DFA said. Besides, it said notices regarding legal proceedings are never sent through email and applications for the issuance of warrants of arrest are filed before the courts and not the Department of Justice. "The public (is) advised not to fall victim to this modus operandi and to report any such emails to the DFA, the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate General or the National Bureau of Investigation’s Technical Intelligence Division (raid@nbi.gov.ph)," the DFA said. The DFA did not give further details on whether there have been other cases of Filipinos abroad having received such emails. It also did not say if the dfa.gov.ph domain used in the bogus email was spoofed or hacked. - VVP, GMA News
