Pinoy culture, cuisine featured in Canada festival

Pinoy  art, dance, food and film took center stage recently during the Asian Heritage Month in Gatineau City in Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.
 
Now on its 10th year, visitors experience for the whole month of May the rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada's growth and prosperity, the DFA said in a news release.
 
Philippine paintings from the personal collection of Philippine Ambassador to Canada Leslie Gatan adorn the walls of the Gatineau City Library.
 
The works of  Pinoy artists Joel Mataverde and Edwin Jumalon are also on display.
 
With the support of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Cinemalaya films Pepot Artista and Batad were screened at the Jean-Despréz Hall on May 12.  
 
The culture of the Cordillera people came to life when  the independent film Batad was shown at the Agora Gilles-Rocheleau de la Maison du citoyen.
 
Filipino food at the Agora Gilles-Rocheleau de la Maison du citoyen were sold out in just a few hours, thanks to a large French-Canadian crowd on May 13.
 
The Benguet, Ifugao, Bontoc, Apayao, and Kalinga (BIBAK) Association in Ottawa also presented tribal dances that captivated members of the audience, including Member of Parliament Nycole Turmel.
 
Philippine presentations at the Asian Heritage Month were organized by the Philippine Embassy in Canada in coordination with Ming Zhang, President of the Chinese Community of Outaouais. - VVP, GMA News
