Pinoys in Hong Kong mark flag day at site where first PHL flag was sewn

Filipinos in Hong Kong on Tuesday gathered at the Morrison Hill playground in the Wan Chai district to mark Philippine Flag Day.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong's officers and staff led the Filipino community in the event, the Consulate General said on Thursday evening.

It was the first time that Philippine Flag Day was commemorated in Morrison Hill, where the first Philippine flag was sewn in May 1898.

"The first Philippine flag was sewn by Marcela Agoncillo, her daughter Lorenza, and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad, Dr. (Jose) Rizal’s niece, in May 1898 at their house that once stood where the historical marker is now located," the Consulate General said in a news release.

Consul General Noel Servigon led the commemoration of Philippine Flag Day at the Morrison Hill Playground, the Consulate General said.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines said May 28 to June 12 are Flag Days.

During this time, "all offices, agencies and instrumentalities of government, business establishments, institutions of learning and private homes are enjoined to display the flag." - VVP, GMA News
