Palace relays sympathies as Asiana Airlines works on passengers' info
Following the crash of its plane at the San Francisco International Airport, Asiana Airlines is working on information about their passengers, the Philippine Embassy in Washington said Sunday noon, even as Malacañang relayed sympathies to the relatives of the victims.
“Asiana Airlines (is) working on (a) process where friends and families can verify and/or confirm information about passengers on board (the) plane,” it said.
The Philippine Embassy earlier said there was no report of any Filipino aboard the ill-fated Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 plane that crashed upon landing on Saturday.
On the other hand, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Philippine officials continue to monitor the situation and check if there are Filipinos aboard the flight.
At least two people were reported killed in the accident.
“We send our sympathies and condolences to them, as well as well wishes for the recovery of the injured,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.
Valte also said the Consulate General has dispatched Embassy officials to go to the San Francisco International Airport to check if there are Filipinos on that plane.
“So far negative pa ang report [sa Filipino casualties], they are getting more information. It’s very unfortunate what happened," she said.
Meanwhile, flag carrier Philippine Airlines said its flight touched down at San Francisco Airport Sunday morning (Manila time).
“PR 104 touched down at SFO International Airport. Runways have been made available to accommodate flights in the aftermath of Asiana Aircraft [incident],” PAL said on its Twitter account.
Meanwhile Asiana posted on its Twitter account an announcement that one of its flights from San Francisco has been rescheduled.
It said flight OZ213, originally scheduled for Saturday, was rescheduled for Sunday. Passengers were advised to call 800-227-4262. — LBG, GMA News
