If we would agree with the words of the late American filmmaker and screenwriter Robert Altman that “film making is a chance to live many lifetimes,” then young Filipino siblings Luke and Amber Acosta may have lived "more lifetimes" than many of us. Luke and Amber, 11 and 13 respectively, have been chosen to be part of a show in Discovery Kids Channel's “Kids versus Film,” according to a report from “News to Go's” Rida Reyes on Tuesday morning. In the show, two teams of two kids will create their own short documentary on the topic of their choice. Although Luke is younger than his sister, he actually has more experience in making short films, having even received the Young Director's award when he was just eight years old. His award-winning entry entitled “My Special Gift” in the Tang Kiddicine Film Festival showing the tale of two friends discovering their talents could be viewed on YouTube. He won the award even though he nor his sister had any formal training in filmmaking. Amber told Reyes in an interview that “Luke would do more of the thinking. I would think of the concept, Luke would think of the content. Then he would tell me then I would tell the others and it just worked as a dynamic like that.” “We thought na something that will really get the children's attention would be a story. So using the graffiti of our artist, He made a story through the painting of his graffiti and we thought that would probably get their attention,” Amber said. She said joining "Kids versus Film" made her closer to her brother, who looks up to American film director, actor, and producer Tim Burton. Meanwhile, Chie Litiatco Acosta, the mother of Amber and Luke, was happy over their children's achievement. “I'm very proud. As parents we just want them to be able to find what they want to do, to discover their gifts and talents at an early age,” she said. Luke is aspiring to be an artist and game creator while Amber wants to go into presenting and hosting. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
