Filipinos in Hong Kong donating to victims of last week's monsoon rain and floods were encouraged on Monday to donate in cash instead of in kind.

The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong said this would help make sure the donations reach the intended beneficiaries on time.

"To ensure that the much-needed aid will reach the intended recipients at the soonest possible time, the Philippine Consulate General strongly encourages interested donors to send cash instead of in-kind contributions," the consulate said in an advisor which stemmed from a meeting with the members of the Filipino community last Aug. 22.

Last week, heavy rain and floods stemming from the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring swamped Luzon, including Metro Manila.

As of Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least 25 had been left dead in the wake of the floods and rain.
