Pinay rape victim in Kuwait prostituted by PHL embassy janitress
A Filipina domestic helper in Kuwait has accused her employers of rape, and two Philippine embassy personnel of refusing to help her and even hustling her into prostitution.
An exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Thursday said the victim sought help from the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait after she was raped by her employer and two others.
But instead of helping her pursue the case, an embassy official reportedly “advised” her not to file charges against her employers.
“Ang payo po niya sa akin, tumanggap ka na lang ng kahit magkano, kahit 1,000 dinar, tanggapin mo lang. Huwag mo nang ipakulong ang mga amo mo,” the victim said.
A Filipina janitress at the embassy then attempted to hustle the victim, who had temporarily stayed at the embassy's shelter, into prostitution, the report said.
According to Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Lamberto V. Monsanto, the janitress had already been suspended and sent back to the Philippines, while the official has been recalled as he was tagged in a sex-for-flight scheme.
Monsanto promised that the embassy will continue investigating the victim's plight.
But according to the victim, this seems to be an empty promise.
“Wala naman po kasing binabalita sa akin, kaya hindi ko po alam kung naghihintay po ako dito sa wala,” she said in the “24 Oras” report. “Kung wala naman po silang magagawa, sana tulungan nila akong makauwi na.”
Prior to consulting with the embassy, the victim ran to her agency for help, but was forced to return to her employer. Upon her return, she was raped once again by her employer, and eventually, by his employer's father and brother.
She was only able to contact the agency through the help of another Filipino, who worked at a fast food outlet, the report said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
