A Filipino math teacher working in the United Arab Emirates faces a jail term after admitting before a UAE court Tuesday that he molested a 14-year-old Filipino student. UAE-based news site Gulf News reported that the teacher, 29, "exploited his authority as the Filipino boy’s teacher before he hugged and kissed him and touched him inappropriately in April at the school’s premises in Al Ghusais." According to the charge sheet, the teacher had asked the pupils to leave the classroom of their Al Ghusais school so he could be alone with the victim. “Then he asked me to massage his back and shoulders while he stayed in his chair,” the boy narrated. “Then he turned around and touched me indecently." He added the teacher "made me touch him and hugged me before he tried to kiss me." "I stopped him kissing me while he continued touching me indecently for around 25 minutes. When he spotted the pupils returning to the classroom, he stopped what he was doing. That was not the first time he behaved with me like that. He discussed the issue of molesting me and said that he would miss me when I went on summer vacation,” he said. Prosecutors have sought a temporary imprisonment of three to 15 years against the teacher. A ruling will be heard on July 6. — Joel Locsin/DVM GMA News
