The “adobo” is one of the most revered Filipino dishes worldwide. In the US Bay Area, “adobo” not only refers to the delicious meal, but it also symbolizes the celebration of Filipino food and music. This 2014, JS Camins Productions, in partnership with GMA International, will make mouths water and bodies groove in the Adobo Festival on August 23 and 24.
First launched in 2006 by JS Camins Productions, the Adobo Festival prides itself as the first Filipino-American gypsy festival that goes around the Bay Area and beyond. It sets itself apart from other Filipino-themed parties by putting emphasis on authentic Filipino food and original Pinoy music (OPM). Originally, the Adobo Festival was held only in the Peninsula; eventually, it made its way to the East Bay, South Bay, Stockton, and even Sacramento, as a way of reaching out to Filipino communities rooted in various cities in the US.
The Adobo Festival draws thousands of Fil-Ams with its diverse entertainment offerings. Fil-Am chefs and restaurateurs face each other in the Adobo Cook-Off Contest, while vocally-talented kids let their powerful voices be heard during the Kiddie Popstar Competition.
For two days, the event-goers get to experience euphoria courtesy of local performers and famous Filipino singers for free. This year, actress, pop singer, and former Smokey Mountain member Geneva Cruz will serenade the crowd.
GMA International, the business unit that manages and operates GMA Network’s three international channels, GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International, teams up with JS Camins Productions as the exclusive media sponsor for the Adobo Festival. The event will happen at Kennedy Park in Union City, California, and will start at 10 in the morning to 6 in the evening.
