Veloso family receives execution order, allowed to visit Mary Jane
The family of Mary Jane Veloso, the overseas Filipino worker facing death in Indonesia for a drug-related case, has received a copy of the order for her execution.
A report on dzBB radio also said Veloso's family has been allowed to visit her between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
It quoted private lawyer Edre Olalia as saying the immediate family can visit her on the island prison where she was transferred.
Moreover, the dzBB report said Veloso's lawyer and spiritual adviser as well as a Philippine embassy representative had also been allowed to visit her.
But the report said the order did not specify the date of execution of Mary Jane.
On Friday, the Attorney General's Office of Indonesia released a letter ordering the execution of 10 convicts with drug-related charges. AGO Spokesperson Tony Spontana said the letter was dated April 23.
Also, Indonesian authorities had asked foreign embassies of the nationals facing death sentence there to send representatives to the prison island of Nusakambangan to prepare the convicts for their execution.
In Manila, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said the execution of Mary Jane will not take place until the Philippine government receives an official notification from Indonesia.
“The protocol calls for 72 hours to be given to the convicted person and the respective embassies. We have not received anything. From the time we receive it they can not execute within three days,” Del Rosario told reporters on Friday.
Mary Jane is slated for execution with nationals from Australia, Brazil, France, and Nigeria.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Jesus Yabes expressed hopes Veloso will not be executed yet because her case is under appeal. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
