UAAP champs bag medals in Florida cheerleading competition
After winning both the 2015 National Cheerleeding Championship and UAAP Cheerdance Competition in the Philippines, the National University's cheerdance team showed off its title-winning moves to win big at the 2015 World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida.
NU, as the Philippines' sole representative at the international event, won the silver medal for the All-Girl Elite category and the bronze for the Coed Elite and Team Cheer Hip Hop divisions.
According to a statement by the NCC, the Philippines improved upon its bronze medal win in last year's All-Girl category.
Moreover, Philippine Cheer Association (PCA) president Eduardo David said this was the first time the country competed in the Cheer Hip Hop division.
The All-Girls squad was formed through national tryouts by athletes in high school and college, while the high school group of Miriam Sayawatha represented the Philippines in the Cheer Hiphop division.

"Three podium finishes in all three divisions. If this were an Olympic sport, we can expect medals every four years or so. We're pretty good at this," NCC and Team Pilipinas Cheerleading founding head Carlos Valdes said in the statement.
