Fil-Aussie handball athlete OK after injury, gets Hall of Fame Award

Bevan Calvert, the Filipino-Australian handball sensation, is recuperating well following the injury he suffered late last year, and was recently given the Hall of Fame award for his achievements in court.

Calvert fell badly after a contact during a game in September 2015 and was sidelined for eight games in the German Handball Bundesliga as a precaution.

But according to The Filipino Australian, "scans and other medical tests showed that there was no internal effects" of Calvert's concussion.

On his first game after coming back from recovery, Calvert led his team, Mecklenburg Schwerin, to victory against Fusche Berlin II with a score of five goals.

On March 13, 2016, Calvert received a Hall of Fame Award in the inaugural Adhika Community Builders Awards for his achievements in handball.

The Adhika Community Builders Hall of Fame Award also recognises Bevan as the first athlete of Filipino-Australian heritage to be Captain of an Australian men’s team.

Calvert was Team Captain of the Australian handball team which competed in the 2012 Oceania Region Qualifier and the 2013 International Handball Federation World Championship held in Spain. —KBK, GMA News
