Pinoy vacationers from Japan find bag slashed while at NAIA
A Filipino couple on their way home from a vacation in Japan claimed their bag was slashed while inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), GMA News' Ian Cruz reported on 24 Oras on Friday.
Gobby de Leon and his wife arrived from Fukuoka on Cebu Pacific flight 5J923 on Tuesday evening and were halfway out of the airport when they realized that one of their bags was slashed open.
"Nung tiningnan ko yung maleta sa ilalim, laslas eh. Parang binurike. Siyempre kinabahan na 'ko, tumakbo kami kaagad sa desk," De Leon said.
"Kung naging pareho lang ang timbang, pinabayaan ko lang. Kaya lang nung tinimbang nila, kulang yung timbang."
Aside from the P20,000 worth of make-up the couple bought as holiday presents, they also lost goods they stowed in plastic bags. The report said whoever took the items left the plastic bags.
The couple reported the incident to the PNP Aviation Security Group and terminal manager of NAIA Terminal 3.
Cebu Pacific is in contact with the couple regarding the incident.
Bing Lina, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Assistant General Manager for Operations, vowed to punish the person or persons behind the incident.
"Yun naman ang hindi natin pupwedeng payagan. Kung meron mang lumulusot at may nangyayaring ganyan, eh siguro darating rin yung pagkakataon na matatapos rin yung kalagayahan nila," Lina said.
New security measures on US-bound flights
New security measures will be imposed on flights headed for the United States, including the addition of a third baggage check between the initial check at the entrance and final check at the boarding area.
"Ready na tayo. Unless na they will introduce another kind of x-ray or security equipment, then sa ano na ng airlines 'yan. They will comply with the requirements," Lina said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
