The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reported 127 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total tally to 13,760.

The DFA said the spike in new cases was due to a surge in a country in Europe.

According to the DFA, recoveries also rose to 8,794 after 46 more Filipinos overseas defeated the viral disease.

The death toll, meanwhile, remained at 944.

The Middle East/Africa still had the highest number of COVID-19-positive Filipinos at 7,845 including 4,752 recoveries and 605 deaths.

The Asia Pacific Region followed with 2,757 cases with 1,967 recoveries and 21 fatalities.

In Europe, a total of 2,344 cases have been recorded. 118 of whom have died, while 1,542 have recovered.

Moreover, in the Americas, 814 Filipinos have been infected with the viral disease. 533 of whom have recovered, while 200 have died.

“The DFA personnel in our Foreign Service Posts remain steadfast in partnering with local health authorities and commit to tirelessly attending to the needs of our people, whenever possible,” the department said.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
