Pinay TV anchor in NYC passes away suddenly

A Filipino-American TV anchor in New York City has passed away at the age of 47.

A report on NBC New York where she worked said Katherine Creag, or Kat to her friends and colleagues, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 10.

The report did not mention the exact cause of death, but said Creag passed away "suddenly" due to a "medical condition."

Creag even reported for work on Wednesday morning, according to NBC New York.

In an email to staff, WNBC's vice president of news, Amy Morris, described Creag as "thoughtful, funny and relentless."

"And even on the toughest days she was a bright light, quick with a kind word and a smile," Morris said.

Born in Manila, Philippines, Creag was living in Manhattan with her husband and three children, and had worked at NBC for 10 years.

According to her biography on the WNBC website, Creag is "fluent in Tagalog and represents NBC 4 as host for Filipino community events."

Creag has received two Emmy, Associated Press and Edward R. Murrow awards for her coverage of breaking news. Her biography also says that as part of NBC4's team-coverage of Hurricane Sandy, Creag earned a 2014 National Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award. --KBK, GMA News
