Philippine NY Consulate: 51-year-old Pinay verbally assaulted, harassed
A 51-year-old Filipina was verbally assaulted and harassed at a subway station in New York City, the Philippine Consulate General in New York reported Thursday,
According to the consulate, an alleged homeless woman tried to prevent the distressed Filipina from boarding her train at the 63rd Drive Subway Station in Rego Park, Queens Saturday afternoon.
This is the 42nd case of hate-related incidents against members of the Filipino community in New York City since 2021.
“Kababayan residing in New York and those on temporary visits are reminded to always remain vigilant and to take the necessary precautions, especially when walking in the streets or taking mass transport,” the consulate warned.
Filipinos who encounter hate incidents should immediately report them so that the consulate can “more accurately assess the situation and issue timely advisories to help ensure the safety and security of members of the Filipino community.”
