Germany to hire 600 nurses from Philippines —embassy

Germany is hiring 600 nurses from the Philippines for its partner hospitals and elderly care centers, its embassy in Manila said Monday.

Under Germany's Triple Win Project (TWP) with the Philippine government, the embassy said the Department of Migrant Workers began accepting applications from registered Filipino nurses with at least one year related professional experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and/or care institutions or private duty nurse.

Commissioned by the German government in 2013, TWP has deployed nurses to major hospital partners in Germany.

Some of these nurses have already been promoted to higher positions while others are expanding their knowledge by pursuing further academic studies to strengthen their career.

"Filipino nurses employed in Germany benefit from the high standards of German labor laws and ample social security system regulations, including health insurance, pension insurance scheme, and unemployment insurance," the German Embassy said on its website.

"In terms of remuneration, Filipino nurses will not receive a less favorable treatment than their German colleagues."

Interested applicants are required to:

  • have German language proficiency of B1 or B2 Level in accordance with Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (certificate should be within 1 year from date of issuance.
  • or undergo German language training in the Philippines to attain Level B1 (to be paid and organized by Triple Win); and
  • attend the language class which may start anytime from November 2022 to January 2023

Applicants who already have B1 and/or B2 certificates and were issued more than one year shall take the language assessment. The TWP offers free refresher course.

The embassy said applicants must submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae with colored passport-size picture, copy of valid passport, a notarized nursing diploma upon acceptance to the program, and a board certificate and copy of license from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Certificates of employment in related field — previous and current — must also be submitted upon acceptance, as well as attendance and/or level certificate for German language, if available.

Since the program is a government-to-government arrangement, the TWP covers the following:

  • Free German Language training (from A1-B1 level)
  • Bonus payment for passing A2 and B1 on first take (250 euro)
  • Free translation of recognition documents and certification
  • Travel expenses (visa and airfare)
  • Assistance in finding suitable accommodation once in Germany

"The shrinking and aging German population induces an increasing demand for health care professionals which cannot be met by the local labor market, but requires health care institutions to hire nurses from abroad to work in German hospitals and nursing homes for the elderly," the embassy said.

Estimates show that Germany needs an additional 150,000-200,000 professional nurses over the next ten years.

Nurses, the embassy said, have been placed on the national shortage occupation list by the German authorities in 2013, paving the way for the recruitment of foreign workers.
