Missing Fil-Am found dead in a creek in Brooklyn, New York

NEW YORK - The body of a missing Filipino-American psychologist was found Friday in a creek in Brooklyn, New York City.

The victim was identified as Karl Clemente, 27.

Clemente was first reported missing on Sunday night, June 11.

According to his father Alex Clemente, Karl was supposed to attend a concert on Sunday night at the Brooklyn Mirage Arena together with his friends. However, he was not allowed in by security personnel because he allegedly drank alcohol.

His friends reportedly left him outside the concert site.

Clemente last sent a text message to his friend at 9:53 p.m.

In security footage secured by the New York Police Department (NYPD), Clemente was seen running inside a lumber warehouse not far from the Booklyn Mirage Arena.

On Friday, his body was found floating in a creek at the back of the same lumber warehouse.

Before Clemente's body was found, a concerned citizen sent his wallet to his parents in upstate New York.

The concerned citizen said he found the wallet inside the lumber warehouse.

Alex Clemente said his son's cellphone and backpack were missing.

The NYPD has not yet released information regarding the case. Clemente's body will be subjected to medical autopsy.

The Philippine Consulate General in New York extended condolences to the Clemente family.

Consul General Senen Mangalile said they will monitor the case investigation to see if there was foul play in the death of Karl.

"Nakikiramay po tayo sa pamilya (We convey our condolences to the family)," Mangalile said.

"Isang bagay ito na tutukan natin upang malaman kung ano dahilan ng kinamatay ng kababayan natin. Rest assured na the Philippine Consulate General will always be monitoring and follow up this case," he added.

(This is one case that we will focus on to know what caused the death of our fellow Filipino.)

"Kahapon po ang Konsulado natin kausap natin sila pero hindi natin alam ang kalagayan ng kanilang anak. So magre-reach out po tayo sa kanila to offer any assistance na we can do from our side. Pero ngayon po taos pusong pakikiramay muna sa nangyari sa kanilang anak," Mangalile said.

(Yesterday, the Consulate got in touch with the family but we did not know yet then the condition of their son. So we will reach out to them to offer any assistance we can do from our side. For not, we convey our sincere apologies for the death of their son.) —Dave Llavanes Jr./KG, GMA Integrated News
