The Philippine government is working closely with the Israeli Defense Forces to confirm the status of the two remaining missing Filipinos in war-torn Israel.

At the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said about 770 families in the Philippines have sought assistance to locate their loved ones in Israel through the agency’s helplines.

Of the said number, Cacdac said, “768 are accounted for,” but the whereabouts of the remaining two Filipinos are still pending “status updates.”

“We already sought help with the Israeli Defense Forces... We are coordinating with Israeli Defense Forces,” he said.

The DMW official said that he is not privy to the details concerning the search for the missing Filipinos.

“But we’ve been assured na itong ating mga kababayan ay hinahanap,” emphasized Cacdac.

He also said that they are also coordinating with the families of the missing Filipinos.

Reports quoting Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss said that the two missing Filipinos in Israel were likely kidnapped.

A report by Reuters, likewise, said two Filipinos were among those kidnapped by Palestinian militant group Hamas. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
