DOH to deploy healthcare workers to Jamaica

DOH to deploy healthcare workers to Jamaica

The Philippine’s Department of Health (DOH) and Jamaica’s Ministry of Health on Thursday signed a deal that would allow the deployment of Filipino healthcare workers to the Caribbean country for capacity building.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Philippine Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa and Jamaican Health Minister Christopher Tufton in Kingston, Jamaica.

The DOH said the deal also seeks exchange of knowledge between the two countries.

“Key initiatives include deploying trainers, sharing knowledge in fields like biotechnology and epidemiology, and addressing health workforce sustainability,” the statement issued on Friday read.

“The Health Secretary also committed to the immediate deployment of Filipino healthcare workers to Jamaica, aiming to build their capacity through exposure to Jamaica's healthcare system while helping address the country's health workforce shortage.”

The DOH, however, did not give a figure yet on how many healthcare workers will be deployed to Jamaica. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
