DFA confirms death of one Filipino in Myanmar

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Wednesday the death of an overseas Filipino worker who went missing after the magnitude-7.7 earthquake jolted Myanmar on March 28.

In a Viber message, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega confirmed that Francis Aragon’s “remains were positively identified last night.”

In a separate statement, the Foreign Affairs Department said the family of the deceased Filipino has been informed of the situation.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs regrets to inform the nation that the remains of one of the four missing Filipinos in Mandalay, Myanmar have been positively identified," it said.

"Out of respect for the privacy (of the family) in this time of grief, we are withholding further information on the matter," it added.

The DFA said it will "continue to work and hope for the best for the remaining three Filipinos still unaccounted for as a result of the powerful earthquake which hit Myanmar last 28th of March."

Alvin Aragon, brother of the missing OFW, earlier in the day announced on Facebook that the body of his sibling has been found.

“Ipinapaalam po [namin] na nakita na po [‘yung’ kapatid namin at masakit man sa amin [tanggapin na kasama na siya] ni Lord [ngayon],” Alvin Aragon’s Facebook post read.

(We would like to inform you that our sibling has been found, and though it hurts us to accept it, he is now with the Creator.)

According to a previous 24 Oras report, Francis was among the four OFWs who went missing after their condominium building collapsed due to the strong earthquake in Myanmar.
