Follow Hong Kong rules on public gatherings —PH Consulate
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has reminded Filipinos to exercise caution and remain mindful of local laws when participating in public gatherings.
According to the consulate, under the Hong Kong Public Order Ordinance, a permit is required for organizing public assemblies.
Organizers must submit a written notification to the Commissioner of Police no later than 11 a.m. on the week before the scheduled gathering.
"The Commissioner of Police has the authority to prohibit public meetings if deemed necessary in the interest of national security, public safety, order, or the protection of others' rights and freedoms," the Consulate said in a statement. "He may also impose reasonable conditions or restrictions on such gatherings."
Failure to comply with any restrictions set by the Commissioner may result in penalties, including imprisonment for up to 12 months and a fine of up to HK$5,000.
Additionally, failure to notify authorities or engaging in disorderly or violent conduct during public assemblies may lead to more severe consequences, including imprisonment of up to five years.
The consulate advised all Filipinos in Hong Kong to remain informed of local laws and to ensure any public activity is done following the city's legal requirements. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
