NAIA OFW Lounge to have rest beds, shower rooms

The operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) said it plans to put up a special rest area that will have rest beds, massage chairs, and shower rooms for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with layovers of at least eight hours.

In an advisory released on social media on Friday, NAIA — operated by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) — said the special rest area, which will also have locker rooms, will be “coming soon,” but did not release a specific timetable.

The OFW Lounge, which offers free meals, drinks, charging stations and wifi located at the new immigration area in Terminal 3, has been open since July 19, 2024. The lounge in Terminal 1 was opened in January.

Meanwhile, a dedicated OFW Immigration area has also been opened.

"Departing OFWs no longer need to line up at the regular counters," the post read.

“New NAIA Infra Corp. is working to make your airport experience more comfortable — because you deserve nothing less,” the advisory read.

NNIC, made up of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviaton Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., took over NAIA on September 14, 2024.

To recall, NNIC inked a P170.6-billion concession agreement with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to take over NAIA in March 2024, after it offered the highest share of its future revenues from operating the gateway to the government. —Jon Viktor Dumawa Cabuenas/KG, GMA Integrated News
