26 Pinoy workers from Cambodia repatriated

The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia said that 26 Filipino nationals who were working for a company in Oddar Meanchey have been repatriated.

The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia on Wednesday said that 26 Filipino nationals who were working for a company in Oddar Meanchey province have been repatriated.

The Embassy said that upon the request of concerned Filipinos, it officially requested the Cambodian government for the release of the individuals from the company they are working in the municipality of Samraong.

“The effective coordination between the Embassy and the Cambodian authorities is a testament to the long-standing friendly ties between the Philippines and Cambodia and highlights both governments’ readiness to cooperate closely in matters of mutual concern,” the Embassy said.

The Embassy did not clarify if the Filipinos were victims of human trafficking, but it reminded the public of a previous advisory warning against dubious job opportunities peddled on social media.

“In many cases, these supposed CSR (customer service relations) jobs involve victimizing unsuspecting individuals through love scams or fake investment schemes,” the advisory read.

Filipinos in Cambodia who need the Embassy’s assistance or want to report dubious job schemes may contact +855 9888 8771 (Telegram/ WhatsApp/ Viber) or email phnompenhpe.atn@dfa.gov.ph.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) were at the airport to welcome the repatriates and provide them with necessary assistance, the embassy said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
