More OFWs in Cambodia need rescue from scam hubs —PH envoy
More Filipinos in Cambodia are seeking to be rescued from scam hubs, the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia said Monday.
Eighty overseas Filipino workers were rescued in Cambodia in 2024, while there were 186 Filipino workers rescued in 2025, according to Jonathan Andal report on Saksi on Monday.
Meanwhile, about 12 distressed OFWs are awaiting rescue.
“Some of them come from the POGOs (Philippine offshore gaming operators) that closed. We thought we were going to see the number fall. We thought people would know better,” Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Flerida Anne Camille Mayo said.
She added that recruitment for scam hubs in Cambodia is still done online, and people are still being brought into the country through backdoor entry points, such as via rivers.
To strengthen the protection of OFWs in Cambodia, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac to establish an office in Phnom Penh.
