Marcos vows admin to ensure every OFW treated as heroes
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Thursday vowed that his administration would continue to improve protection and services for overseas Filipino workers as he wants them to be treated as heroes.
''Kaya bilang suporta, asahan ninyo na nandito lang ang inyong pamahalaan,'' Marcos said in his speech during the 2025 Bagong Bayani Awards.
(As our support, we assure you that the government is here for you.)
''Through the Department of Migrant Workers, we shall continue to elevate protection, streamline services, and ensure that every OFW is treated as the hero that they are,'' he added.
Marcos honored the outstanding OFWs during the 2025 Bagong Bayani Awards at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañang Palace.
The Bagong Bayani Awards is the nation’s highest tribute to OFWs, honoring their strength, excellence and heart. It reminds every Filipino that true heroism is found in everyday service and sacrifice, whether on land or at sea, in homes or hospitals, here in the Philippines or abroad.
There are several categories: Outstanding Employee Award, Community and Social Service Award, Culture and the Arts Award, Capt. Gregorio S. Oca Achievement Award, and Blas F. Ople Award Para sa Natatanging Bagong Bayani.
For 2025, new categories are introduced, such as Heroic Act Award, Successful Reintegration Award, and Susan ‘Toots’ V. Ople Award. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
