PH Embassy in Thailand advice Filipinos to be cautious, vigilant
The Philippine Embassy in Thailand has advised Filipinos in areas affected by the armed encounters between Thailand and Cambodia to be exercise extreme caution, vigilance, and to follow the advice of authorities.
"In view of the ongoing armed clashes at various locations along the Thai - Cambodian border on 8 December 2025, the Philippine Embassy in Thailand urgently advises members of the Filipino community in the border provinces of Ubon Ratchatani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Chantaburi, and Trat to earnestly follow the advice, including any evacuation orders, from local public safety and community officials, their employers, and other pertinent authorities in the affected areas," the embassy said in a statement.
"All overseas Filipinos (OFs) in areas near the border are also enjoined to exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, take steps to ensure their personal safety, and report their whereabouts to the Philippine Embassy," the embassy also said.
Reuters reported that Thailand has launched air strikes along its disputed border with Cambodia, the Thai military said on Monday, after both countries accused the other of breaching a ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump.
At least one Thai soldier has been killed and four wounded in the fresh clashes that broke out around two areas in the easternmost province of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand's military said in a statement, after its troops came under Cambodian fire.
The border dispute had erupted into a five-day war in July, before a ceasefire deal brokered by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Trump, who also witnessed the signing of an expanded peace agreement between the two countries in Kuala Lumpur in October.
Moreover, Filipinos are "highly discouraged" to travel to the affected provinces, namely: the border provinces of Ubon Ratchatani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Chantaburi, and Trat.
"The Philippine Embassy in Thailand stands ready to assist all Filipinos in need and will continue to monitor the situation in Thailand."
