Filipina nurse killed in tragic accident outside Sacramento VA Medical Center
NEW YORK - A Filipina nurse was killed after being struck by a vehicle outside the Sacramento VA Medical Center in California, where she was employed.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Novyrose Mejia. The incident happened on December 13, 2025.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the impact caused Mejia to fall and strike her head on the ground. First responders transported her to the VA Medical Center’s emergency room before transferring her to UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment.
Her co-workers attempted to save her, but she succumbed to severe head injury three days later.
Mejia is survived by her husband and two sons.
She studied at the University of Baguio before migrating to the United States.
According to her family’s GoFundMe page, Novyrose whom her loved ones called Novy lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and service. A devoted Catholic and a selfless nurse, she dedicated her life to caring for others, comforting the sick, advocating for her patients, and answering God’s call to serve with humility and grace. She gave endlessly of herself, often putting others before her own needs.
The GoFundMe page also stated that her family is now facing an unimaginable loss and overwhelming financial burdens during this time. The community has come together to support them as they cope with medical expenses and funeral costs.
The Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash. No criminal charges have been announced.
