No OFWs affected in magnitude 7 Taiwan quake – DMW
There were no overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected or injured in the powerful earthquake that hit Taiwan’s northeastern coast, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Sunday night.
“No injured nor adversely affected OFWs in the Taiwan earthquake. No reported cases of disrupted employment either,” said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac in a post on X.
“Our prayers to those adversely affected,” he added.
On Saturday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that a magnitude 7 earthquake struck the Taiwan region, but said this did not pose a tsunami threat to the Philippines.
According to a PHIVOLCS advisory, the quake occurred at 11:05 p.m. and was centered at 24.65°N, 122.04°E, about 429 km north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.
Its epicenter was tracked at roughly 31 km east-southeast of Yilan, Taiwan according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and with a depth of 68 kilometers. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
