Free medical, courier service for OFWs renewing driver’s license - LTO
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will provide free medical and courier service to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) renewing their driver’s licenses through caravans abroad.
The LTO said the caravans were organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“Hindi na kinakailangan pang umuwi ng Pilipinas ang mga OFW upang mag-renew ng kanilang lisensya, sapagkat ang mga LTO team ay direktang nagbibigay ng serbisyo sa ibang bansa sa pamamagitan ng mga caravan, sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa OWWA at DMW,” the LTO said in a statement on Wednesday.
(OFWs no longer need to return to the Philippines to renew their licenses, because LTO teams are directly providing services in foreign countries through caravans, in coordination with the OWWA and DMW.)
OFWs usually spend up to P6,000 just for medical examination and courier fee when renewing their driver’s license, the LTO said.
Under the memorandum, OFWs can claim their updated driver’s license in select OWWA or DMW offices or in Philippine embassies.
“Bukod sa libreng medical examination, saklaw din ng programa ang libreng courier service para sa pagpapadala ng naprosesong driver’s license mula sa Pilipinas patungo sa piling tanggapan ng OWWA o DMW, gayundin sa mga Embahada ng Pilipinas sa ibang bansa, kung saan maaari itong personal na kunin ng mga OFW,” the LTO said.
(Aside from the free medical examination, the program also covers free courier services for sending the processed driver’s licenses from the Philippines to selected offices of OWWA or DMW, as well as to Philippine embassies abroad, where OFWs can personally pick them up.) —VBL, GMA Integrated News
