No Pinoy casualty in US snowstorm — DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said there was no Filipino casualty in the deadly snowstorm that swept across the United States and left at least 29 people dead.

Nearly half of the US were affected by the winter freeze that knocked down power supply for thousands of households, made roads impassable due to thick snow, and disrupted flights.

"(We) have not received reports of any Filipino casualty of snowstorm Fern," a DFA statement said.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, the Philippine Consulate General in New York, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago and the Philippine Consulate General in Houston have advised Filipinos to contact 911 or local authorities for live emergencies.

"For consular emergencies, they may be reached through their respective hotline numbers which can be found in the official websites and social media pages," the DFA said.

Heavy snow is still falling in the northeast part and weather authorities said below freezing temperatures will continue in the eastern side this week. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
