PH Embassy advises Filipinos in US anew to prepare for winter storms

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. has issued an advisory to Filipinos anew in the Eastern U.S. to prepare for incoming winter storms.

In an advisory on Friday, the Embassy told Filipino communities to heed local warnings and conduct necessary preparations amid warnings of heavy snow, dangerous travel conditions, and extreme cold temperatures to set over the weekend in some areas.

Among affected areas anticipating heavy snow were the Southern Appalachians, Carolinas, and the southern Mid-Atlantic.

“The safety of Filipino nationals is the Embassy’s priority. Please monitor local weather updates, prepare for cold temperatures, limit travel, and secure important documents such as passports and IDs,” read the advisory.

Major winter storms across the eastern U.S. had already caused at least 38 deaths across 14 states as of Tuesday, 10 of which were in New York City.

The storms reportedly caused power outages in more than 550,000 homes across the U.S.
