Filipino student repatriated from Jordan after risk of illegal stay
A Filipino student has been repatriated from Amman, Jordan after arriving in the country in a “vulnerable situation” and under unauthorized circumstances.
According to a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the victim arrived in March 2025 after allegedly being misled by educational and employment opportunities in Jordan.
The Philippine Embassy in Jordan immediately worked to repatriate the student under the Assistance-to-Nationals Fund following reports of the risk of an illegal stay.
Meanwhile, the Embassy reminded the public that Filipinos intending to travel to Jordan on a student visa that they are not allowed to work.
“Violations often lead to detention, fines, and deportation,” the statement read.
“The Embassy urges all Filipinos intending to study in Jordan to exercise extreme caution regarding offers for study or work. All Filipinos coming to Jordan on student visas are encouraged to apply only through Jordan’s official website and to ensure sufficient financial capacity to cover both tuition and living expenses for the entire duration of stay without relying on local employment,” it added. — Jiselle Anne C.
