No reported Pinoy casualty in Pakistan mosque bombing - DFA
No Filipino was reported injured or killed in the suicide bombing in a mosque in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.
The attack at a Shi'ite Muslim mosque during Friday prayers killed at least 31 and injured nearly 170 others.
According to a report by Reuters, the attacker was stopped at the gate of the mosque before detonating the bomb.
The attack was regarded as the deadliest suicide bombing Islamabad has experienced in over a decade.
"At this time, there have been no reports of Filipino nationals among those killed or injured," the DFA said in a statement.
The Philippine embassy in Pakistan is closely monitoring the situation, the DFA said, adding the diplomatic post is ready to extend all necessary assistance to any Filipino national who may be affected by the tragic incident.
There are at least 3,100 Filipinos in Pakistan, according to Philippine government data.
In the meantime, the DFA said the embassy is in touch with relevant authorities and will provide updates as information becomes available. —Michaela Del Callar and Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
