DMW warns vs scammers offering jobs through email, social media
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday warned the public against scammers pretending to be Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and offering supposed opportunities for jobs abroad.
In a post on its Facebook page, the DMW included a screenshot of the email from the con artist posing as Cacdac, in which the con artist pretended to update an aspiring overseas Filipino worker (OFW).
The agency stressed that “cascdacdmw.gov.ph@gmail.com” is not the DMW chief’s official email address and is fake, and should be ignored altogether.
“Ang pekeng account na ito ay maaaring makapagdulot ng kalituhan at maling impormasyon sa ating mga OFWs at kanilang pamilya. Ito rin ay hindi awtorisado ng DMW na mag-advertise ng mga trabaho sa ibang bansa at magproseso ng dokumentong kailangan sa pagtatrabaho abroad,” the DMW said.
(This fake account might cause confusion and spread wrong information among OFWs and their families. This is also not authorized by the DMW to advertise jobs in other countries and process documents needed for employment abroad.)
The DMW urged the public to inform authorities, especially the DMW, if they encounter suspicious or dubious overseas job offers from emails or social media accounts.
“Huwag rin basta makipag-ugnayan sa mga unverified entities upang hindi mabiktima ng SCAM,” it added.
(Do not also communicate with unverified entities so that you will not be victimized by SCAMS.)
OFWs or aspiring OFWs may coordinate or reach out to the DMW through its official Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/dmw.gov.ph and its website, https://dmw.gov.ph/ regarding any announcement or information about overseas employment.
For immediate assistance, they may contact the DMW Public Assistance Desk at (02) 8722-1144 and (02) 8722-1155. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
