Pinoy human trafficking victim in China repatriated — BI
A Filipino who allegedly fell victim to a human trafficking scheme in China was repatriated to the Philippines, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
Immigration authorities said the 33-year-old victim safely landed in the country from Guangzhou on February 27 after she was arrested in China for allegedly being an undocumented worker.
The victim allegedly worked as a cleaner in China for three years before authorities discovered she had no proper documentation records, the BI added.
“Records show that the victim initially departed the Philippines as a tourist bound for Vietnam before later crossing over land to China through an irregular migration route due to the countries’ proximity,” said BI Commissioner Joel Viado in a news release Friday.
Viado said the victim was repatriated to the Philippines through the coordination between the Embassy of the Philippines in China and Chinese authorities.
The BI chief also called on Filipinos to remain vigilant against illegal recruitment schemes and to verify job offers abroad through legitimate channels. — Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA Integrated News
