2,000 more OFWs from Middle East to be repatriated this week
Amid the conflict in the Middle East, an estimated 2,000 more overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs) from Gulf countries are expected to be repatriated to Manila before the end of the week.
According to a report in “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the repatriates will be coming from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Israel.
The report added that the process of evacuating the OFWs is being done thoroughly, including their exit clearances and visas.
So far, the government has purchased over 1,000 repatriation and post-repatriation tickets, most of which are for chartered and commercial flights.
An additional P1 billion from the DMW’s Action Fund was also activated in case the repatriation of OFWs would continue. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
