179 OFWs from Bahrain and Kuwait await repatriation in Riyadh - OWWA
At least 179 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Bahrain and Kuwait who availed of the government's repatriation program are currently in Riyadh ahead of their flight bound for the Philippines on Monday, March 23.
The group composed of 80 OFWs from Bahrain and 99 OFWs from Kuwait will join other repatriates from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said on Saturday.
They will form the fourth batch of repatriates amid the Middle East conflict.
“Ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na OFWs mula sa apat na bansa ang sabay-sabay na isasakay sa iisang charter flight bilang bahagi ng repatriation operations ng pamahalaan,” the OWWA said.
(This is the first time that OFWs from four countries will be on one charter flight as part of the government’s repatriation operations.)
The Department of Migrant Workers said on Thursday that a total of 2,099 OFWs and their dependents have so far returned to the Philippines amid the unrest. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
