Cardinal Tagle to represent Pope Leo at Archbishop Fulton Sheen beatification

Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has been appointed representative of Pope Leo XIV to the beatification of American Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, the Vatican's Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

According to the short announcement, the beatification will be held in St. Louis, Missouri in the United States on September 24, 2026.

Cardinal Tagle is the Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization.

According to Vatican News, Sheen was a popular preacher on television and radio.

"Archbishop Fulton Sheen was one of the greatest voices of evangelization in the Church and the world in the 20th century," said Bishop Louis Tylka, Diocese of Peoria, in a statement posted on February 9, 2026 on the website dedicated to the Cause for the beatification of the American Archbishop.

Sheen was declared Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 in recognition of his heroic virtue.

It was in 2019 that the approval of Pope Francis of a miracle that occurred through the intercession of Archbishop Sheen that cleared the path for his beatification.
