244 OFWs back to PH from Bahrain amid Middle East conflict — OWWA

A total of 244 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Bahrain have returned to the Philippines on Good Friday amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.

In a social media post, the OWWA said the repatriates arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City aboard Gulf Air Flight GF154.

Some 200 OWWA personnel, led by Administrator Patricia Yvonne "PY" Caunan, were deployed at the airport to prepare for the arrival of repatriates from the region.

Aside from this batch, another flight with 344 Filipinos from Abu Dhabi is scheduled to land at Villamor Air Base later in the day, according to OWWA.

Officials said the coordinated efforts of government agencies aim to provide an organized, prompt, and humane reception for the returning OFWs, including assistance and support services upon arrival.

The mass repatriation comes as the conflict between US-Israeli forces with Iran has dragged on for nearly six weeks, with violence reaching other Gulf states. — VDV, GMA News
