Department of Migrant Workers personnel assist repatriated OFWs

One hundred thirty-eight overseas Filipino workers and 59 of their dependents arrived safely on Friday night in the country after being repatriated from Dubai and Qatar, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Saturday.

The repatriated OFWs and dependents arrived via two flights, one from Dubai via Emirates with 112 OFWs and 44 dependents on board, and one from Doha, Qatar via Qatar Airways with 26 OFWs and 15 dependents.

They were assisted in the repatriation process by Migrant Workers Offices and the Department of Foreign Affairs through the Philippine Embassy, the DMW said.

Personnel of the DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) welcomed the OFWs and their dependents upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

The repatriated Filipinos were given medical and financial assistance, temporary shelter, and free transportation going back to their home provinces.

The government is committed to help Filipino repatriates through the Balikbayang Manggagawa: National Reintegration Network (NRN), which helps in job placement and extends livelihood assistance, skills training, and medical and psychosocial support, the DMW added.

Since the start of the tensions in the Middle East due to the US-Israel war against Iran, the government, through the DMW and OWWA, has been actively repatriating OFWs amid security concerns in the region. —KG, GMA News
